Over the last decade Shelby County's population has increased by more than 4,000 people every year, making it Alabama's fastest growing county and among the fastest growing in the United States. With a 2005 population estimate of 171,465, Shelby County's population has increased 73% since 1990. Economic Base

Shelby County has a diverse economic base that is a reflection of the county's attractiveness for industrial and corporate development.  The Highway 280 corridor in the north central portion of the county is Alabama's fastest growing corporate location. Shelby County's Interstate 65 corridor is a magnet for light industrial and wholesale distribution.
